  • 2006 Engineering Excellence Award Winners - 26 May 2006
    The IPWEA NSW Engineering Excellence Awards were presented at the Annual Conference Gala Dinner on the 22nd May 2006. These awards provide members with the opportunity to receive recognition for their projects in front of their peers as well as providing the opportunity for resource sharing amongst Councils.


  • IPWEA/RTA Local Government Road Safety Strategy - 26 May 2006
    The IPWEA/RTA Local Government Road Safety Strategy works to raise the priority of road safety in Local Government. This is achieved through support for council road safety strategic planning, the administration of funding for local road safety initiatives and through the presentation of annual Local Government Excellence in Road Safety Awards, to recognise outstanding council achievements. The IPWEA/RTA Strategy is one element of the NSW Local Government Road Safety Program conducted as part of Road Safety 2010, a framework for increasing road safety in NSW.

    A shortage of engineers in Australia is threatening growth in Local Government infrastructure, according to industry bodies and recruitment companies. In response, the IPWEA has released a strategy and action plan to address the issue.

  • IPWEA receives Top National Award for Local Government Excellence - 24 November 2003
    The National Awards for Local Government have been announced. A total of 355 entries were received. The National Special Award for Outstanding Achievement has been awarded to IPWEA working in partnership with UTS and 14 NSW Councils for its timber bridge testing project.

  • Terry Kefalianos is the IPWEA - NSW Division Medal Winner - 29 October 2002
    The IPWEA Medal is a Municipal Engineering Foundation Award, that is awarded to the highest achiever in the Civil Engineering Bachelor's Degree at the University of Technology, Sydney. The winner of this award must also be employed by a local government authority at the time of graduation.

    IPWEA National Office has developed a 2-day workshop that explores 6 different delivery methods including in-house, joint servicing, alliance partnering, and buying in your services. Speakers include Tim Rogers, DoLG, and Prof Kevin Sproats. The workshop will initially be presented in Sydney through the NSW Division from 25-26th September 2001.     The NSW Environmental Management Panel has drafted position statements on Salinity, Solid Waste, Stormwater, Roadside Environment and Environmental Reporting. The draft position statements are open for public comment until April 15 2001.

    The NSW EPA is reviewing its 15 year old policy on railway noise. The IPWEA (NSW Division) Environmental Management Panel is calling for persons to represent IPWEA, the Environmental Management Panel and local government engineers on this review.


  • Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Projects Database - 19 February 2001
    The ISWB is updating its comprehensive data of C&D waste related projects which was developed last year. The IPWEA (NSW Division) Environmental Management Panel is asking Councils/organisations who have a C&D waste program in place or will be commencing a C&D waste program to fill in the attached form and return it to ISWB.
