Road Safety Training

IPWEA is a professional development organisation that supports the training and updating of skills by its members and others in public works and local government. IPWEA (NSW Division) delivers Road Safety Audit Training through its Professional Development Department and is a Registered Training Organisation for the Certificate IV in Road Safety.


The Certificate IV in Road Safety

The Certificate IV in Road Safety is a national training program for road safety professionals that is:

  • A competency based program that focuses on skill levels in the workplace and can operate as a skills audit or performance appraisal
  • Flexibly delivered so that you can enrol when you like, design your own Program and can proceed at your own pace in your workplace
  • A Program to suit your particular needs, life experience and areas of interest
  • Able to recognise prior learning and can include work based assessment
  • Allows you to choose when you want to be assessed
  • Able to recognise the skills and competencies of road safety professionals, particularly in local government
  • A Nationally Accredited Program with links to a range of courses including the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma for Local Government Management at the University of Technology, Sydney.

The Program has been developed by the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW as an initiative of the NSW Local Government Road Safety Program with support from a range of stakeholders including the Motor Accidents Authority, the Local Government and Shires Associations and IPWEA. The Certificate IV in Road Safety is available to road safety practitioners with at least six months experience in the field.

The Certificate IV in Road Safety offers a choice of three strands, which are:

  1. Planning, Implementation and Evaluation
  2. Policy and Research
  3. Media and Communications

Each strand has 8 compulsory modules and 4 elective modules that allow for the participant to choose from any area of interest. For more information on the strands, modules and delivery options, see the Certificate IV Brochure.

Sponsorships for the Certificate IV in Road Safety

Enhance and extend your road safety qualifications and cover your costs by applying for sponsorship of the Certificate IV in Road Safety.

In New South Wales, the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) and the Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) have committed funding for an introductory period to sponsor eligible candidates up to 75% of the cost of enrolment and tuition in the Certificate IV in Road Safety. Sponsored participants will receive a refund upon completion of the qualification. Participants should apply for sponsorship at the time of enrolment.
